A conversion franchise is an existing independent business that joins a franchise system — a local plumber rebranding under a national name. The owner trades independence for brand recognition, marketing, and buying power, usually at a reduced fee reflecting the skipped build-out and training a new unit would need. Conversions are common in real estate, home services, and trades where independents dominate.
The math that matters is incremental: what does the flag add to YOUR existing revenue, against a royalty on everything — including the customers you already had? Converting owners should model the royalty on current sales as the price of admission and demand evidence the brand's lead flow covers it.
